New Islington

New Islington

Sandwiched between Ana Cotas and Miles Platting

New Islington

Where Billy, the Argos man delivers a catalogue of empty promises

To a catalogue of empty properties

Where the grey skies bleed into bedrooms

Through cracks in badly drawn curtain

Where clouds scratch at broken windows

And sideward rain spits tunnels its way through the airbricks

Causing the drip drip drip

Where broken blinds fail the most basic of task

And chimneys full to the brim with slow motion nothingness

Slow leak through the spot where a fire once lived

long gone and patched up by a builder called Tom

With a daft hat and the stub of a pencil tucked behind his left ear
